Name Category/Body Committees Term of Office
Mr Alan Ashworth LA (Herts) Curriculum, Finance, Premises Appointed 16/10/14
Relevant business and pecuniary interests - None

I have served terms as both Parent and LA governor. I currently sit on the Curriculum, Finance and Premises committee and am responsible for monitoring the School's provision and implementation of Special Educational Needs (SEND) throughout the school. I spent 23 years in the legal profession before retiring on health grounds, and for the past six or so years my wife and I have been fostering full time for HCC. I am not related to any current school staff or pupils but my wife worked at the school for many years as a TA. Our two boys attended High Wych school, now aged 23 and working repairing and maintaining hydraulic lifts, and the other aged 20, currently reading Biology at Portsmouth University.

Mr Mark Brocklehurst Parent Governor Curriculum (Clerk) Appointed 06/17
Relevant business and pecuniary interests - None

I am a parent governor with one child at the school in Reception. My professional background is in finance; I am an Actuary working in the Lloyd's insurance market, currently as an independent consultant. My wife and I have lived in High Wych for the past six years and really enjoy the local community, a key part of which is High Wych School. Having a successful and friendly local village school is something I feel very strongly about and I am delighted to be able to support the school as a parent governor.

Mrs Corrina Cranch LA (Herts) Finance, Personnel (Clerk), Premises Appointed 13/04/16
Relevant business and pecuniary interests - None

I am a church deacon at Potter Street Baptist Church, a Justice of the Peace sitting in North East Hertfordshire and currently studying Health and Social Care with the Open University.  My two children both attended the primary school in Little Hallingbury where we have lived for over twenty years.  My son has high functioning Autism so continued his education at a specialist school, my daughter went onto Bishops Stortford College then Norwich University of Art.  I strongly believe that all children are entitled to an education that suits their individual needs, that they should be encouraged and nurtured in a safe environment which is also fun. This is my first school governor’s post.

School Governors are the strategic leaders of our school and have a vital role to play in providing the best possible education for our pupils. By law the purpose of maintained school governing bodies is to ‘conduct the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement at the school’.

Their three core strategic functions:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff;
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

The minutes of the Governors’ meetings are available in the school office for viewing.
