BSSP - Birchwood School Sports Partnership

The children have started to write their own reports

KS1 Gymnastics Level 2 and 3
We won the first competition; we made it through to the finals.  We had a big shock on our faces when we arrived because we were there.  We tried as hard as we could to win.  When there was only two teams left we were so eager to hear who had won and to our surprise, It was us!  Wow, we won gold medals and a silver trophy on Friday and you might be lucky enough to see it yourself. Wow! We all came home with excitement in us and joy.

Netball Spring League
We all enjoyed playing in the spring league and we all started off strong as we won our first two matches against Thorley Hill and Richard Whittington. It got harder as we went on and in the end we won two out of five matches. Mrs Clayden helped us try our best and we got better but the opponent’s teams were stronger.  We will all try harder and harder and look forward to trying to win the summer league.

Level 2 Tri- Golf Tournament Yr4
A very excited Yr4 team went off to represent their school at the annual tri- golf tournament.  Arriving at Birchwood School, ready to play against the other partnership local schools, the team soon settled down and played some excellent putting and chipping shots. They soon managed to get the shots on target and scored highly on many activities. The children had a very enjoyable afternoon of golf finishing seventh out of thirteen schools.
Well done

Level 2 Tag Rugby Festival at Leventhorpe School
A very cold windy day didn’t put the dampners on a well-attended tag rugby festival organised for the local feeder schools and referred by the sports leaders. The children were very enthusiastic, playing well and scoring several well-earned tries.  As always the children had a great time putting their skills into practise.

Level 2 Rapid Fire Cricket at HECC
High Wych entered the rapid fire cricket tournament with a Yr4 team.  After a shaky start they soon settled down and went onto win their closely fought pool.  This put them into a new pool with the other winners.  Some great batting and fielding meant we beat Readings school but lost to Windhill school.  However, all the school drew on points so final scores came down to runs scored.  It was very exciting but unfortunately we didn’t win overall.  We had a fantastic time and really enjoyed taking part.
Well done Yr 4.

Tag Rugby Festivals
A mixture of Yr5 and Yr6 children went off to the annual tag rugby festival held at Bishop Stortford Rugby club on the 8th June.  We managed to field 3 mixed teams, with each team playing at least 6 games.  The children soon got into the flow of the festival enjoying the rugby, showing great team spirit and progression as the afternoon progressed.
The following week was the turn of yr4.  The majority of the class came for a fun filled afternoon, again managing to field 3 teams.  The teams started off cautiously but soon got into the spirit of the day.  We witnessed some exceptional team work and a new passion for rugby for some.  Some amazing running and tries were scored exceeding all their expectations.  The training really paid off.
Well done to all
