Netball v Hillmead

It was extremely hot to play netball but both teams rose to the challenge.  The teams were strong from the start and both sides played some fantastic netball.  The games were played with great enthusiasm between two very equal sides with Hillmead just managing to take the win with a score of 8-7.

Kwik cricket

Ideal cricket weather for the Level 2 Kwik Cricket Competition, held at Sawbridgeworth Cricket club, made a fantastic setting for the twelve local schools taking part.  All those involved took the game very seriously and played with great passion and enthusiasm.  Lots of great batting and bowling set the standard very high. Our team played amazingly well in their pool but unfortunately couldn’t progress onwards. Well done to all involved.

High Wych Footballers start on a winning note

On May 9th our football team travelled to St Joseph’s in Bishop’s Stortford to kick off this year’s BSP football league. Once they had settled down High Wych quickly began to dominate in all areas of the pitch and finally came away with a very convincing 7 – 1 victory. Everyone played with flair and considerable enthusiasm and represented our school in a very positive manner. Well done to all who took part and we look forward to our next match against our old rivals, Hillmead, at home on Wednesday may 24th.

Jobbers Wood Cross Country

April 24th - The rescheduled cross country took place on a dry breezy day with a very large turnout of children from all of the local schools.  High Wych entered boys and girls from Yr4 through to Yr6.  All of the children showed team work, resilience and endurance by completing the course of approx. 1 mile.  The children gave some amazing performances and were a credit to themselves and their school. Well done to all involved

KS1 Dance Workshop

Eight very excited boys and girls from KS1 represented the school at the BSSP Disney dance workshop.  It was their first event to represent the school and one described the day by saying, “It was awesome, can we go again?”
They all performed amazingly, had a great afternoon and were a credit to the school.

Netball v St Joseph

A great start to this year’s summer league.  High Wych started the game very strong ,  with some great passing and accurate shooting.  We soon dominated the game, showing fantastic team work and skills.  The training sessions have really helped givin a new feeling of self belief.
After the four quarters the score was 30 – 1 to High Wych. Fantastic effort from all involved.

Netball V Manorfields

The weather for the 2nd league match was definitely not ideal, full on rain.  However, this did not stop either side from playing a great match, both sides wanting the win. It was a very evenly contested game even though the ball was very slippery making it hard to catch at times.
Final result 10-9 to High Wcyh

Activity Morning

Ten pupils from Yr3 & Yr4 were selected to attend an activity morning at Bishop Stortford Gymnastics to have a fun morning of activities.  The children, along with two other schools, had a great time perfecting their skills including balancing and  agility.  They enjoyed it so much they would like to go every week.
Well done to you all.

Nineteen children making up three teams attended the BSSP Quicksticks tournament.  This followed on from the excellent coaching sessions provided by Bishop Stortford Hockey Club.  Each team played three games in their relative pool with a mixture of results.  Even though none of the teams went further than the group stages, everyone enjoyed themselves, played some excellent hockey, scored some good goals, defended well and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine.

Reedings Cross Country

Reedings very kindly offered to organise a cross country event between Mandeville, High Wych and Reedings schools.  It was a beautiful afternoon, ideal running weather on the school field.  Thirty High Wych children from years 3, 4, 5 & 6 took part.  The children started with great enthusiasm and perseverance over the course.  We all enjoyed a great afternoon with both pupils and parents offering plenty of encouragement.

Leventhorpe Football Tournament

Two mixed teams represented High Wych School at Leventhorpe Football Tournament to play matches against other local schools.  Both teams played their four pool matches with a mixture of results, resulting in both teams going through to the plate semi-finals.  Unfortunately the B team lost in the semi-final, whilst the A team went onto extra time and then winning on penalties.  They played the final with a newfound confidence, as well as many injuries.  Once again, we played extra time followed by a nail biting penalty shoot-out.  Even though we could not quite get all our shoots on target, the teams performed magnificently, with some outstanding performances.  Yet another great afternoon of fine sportsmanship.

High 5 Tournament

Two confident teams arrived at Leventhorpe School for a High 5 tournament against the local feeder schools.  Both teams performed exceptionally well in their respective pools.  Team A went through as the winners of their pool and Team B went through to the semi finals as runners up. Unfortunately the Team B  lost their semi-final but played some very good netball, they all finished the games knowing they had played  really strong netball with some very good personal performances. Team A won their place in the final to play a very strongly contested game.
After full time the game went to extra time which saw High Wych taking the lead and finishing as overall winners. The team should be very proud of their achievement.

KS2 High 5

A very chilly blustery morning at Birchwood, 2 squads met ready to play their best High 5.  The tournament involved 21 teams from local schools.  The B team played 4 games  with a mixture of results. The A team easily won all their pool matches, placing them in a semi- final which they convincingly won against Spellbrook.  The final took place against Windhill 21 1-1 at the final whistles meant golden goal which unfortunately for High Wych was scored by Windhill.
Some amazing play and accurate shooting by the shows confidence is high.  We are looking forward to the Leventhorpe tournament on Tuesday.

KSI Gymnastics

Years 1&2 took part in their very first gymnastics competition.  They performed fantastically even though they were nervous.  The team won both the floor and vault making them the overall winners.  The team now needs to prepare for Herts County finals day in July.
Well done to everyone, be very proud of yourselves and good luck for July.

KS2 Gymnastics

A very strong team of gymnasts left school ready to compete in the BSSP Level 2 competition.  The team performed with great enthusiasm, performing to the best of their abilities.  Along with the other schools, they performed both on the floor and the vault finishing in 1st place for both disciplines.  This overall win secured their place on the Level 3 county finals day in July.
A fantastic result for the squad who performed with great passion and sportsmanship.
Well done to you all.

Level 2 Indoor Athletics

9th February 2017 - A very strong team of year 3 & 4 gymnasts attend the BSSP Level 2 competition competing against twelve other local schools at Stortford Gymnastics.  We performed firstly with body management, followed by floor and finally the vault.  The squad were fantastic, winning each area and gold overall. The squad now look forward Level 3 Count finals day.  Well done to you all.

Friday 27 January - An enthusiastic mixed squad from years 5 & 6 performed exceptionally well in their field events, consisting of chest push, javelin, standing long jump and speed bounce.  After a quick practise session the boys performed their events, quickly followed by the girls.  The squad performed fantastically, surprising themselves and at the end of the field event we were in a strong fourth position.  This was followed by the relays, obstacle, hurdles and running.  The children were a credit to themselves; they performed to the best of their ability and had an amazing afternoon.
Well done to you all.

BSP Basketball Tournament

On November 17th our basketball team travelled to Birchwood to take part in the annual Level 2 basketball competition against other schools in our area. A total of eighteen schools entered teams and the competition was run on a group basis with the winners of each group going forward to the quarter final, semi-finals and final. High Wych topped their group with convincing wins in all their matches. They continued this winning trend through the quarters and semi-finals but unfortunately missed out on the medals as they were beaten by Windhill 21 in the final. A wonderful display by all involved and real disappointment at just missing out by one point in the final. Well done you should all be very proud of your achievement.

Tag-Rugby friendlies at St Andrew’s Much Hadham

As we build up to the Leventhorpe Tag-Rugby tournament we took a group of Yr5 and Yr6 children to St Andrew’s at Much Hadham. The group was divided into three teams who then competed against teams from St Andrew’s and it was a good chance to test their skills against another school. Although it was a friendly event the desire to do well and to compete was still evident. Well done to all who took part and thank you the parents who got them there and back.

Table Tennis

A very excited Yr4 class were invited to attend a table tennis session courtesy of BATTS at the Norman Booth centre.  BATTS had a group of enthusiastic coaches who engaged all our children in table tennis skills.  We had a great afternoon learning new skills and mastering our forehand.
Thank you BATTS.

Rapid Fire Cricket

Seven children from Yr3 and Yr4 attended the first Rapid Fire Cricket tournament at the HECC.  Great facilities and very enthusiastic play from all the local schools made for a very enjoyable morning.  High Wych children played well with some great striking skills and look forward to developing their cricket skills in the future.

Sept 2015-July 2016

Gymnastics Level 3 and 4

Well done to the 2 teams of gymnasts who represented BBSP at the Level 3  Games. An amazing performance from the teams saw both age groups gaining gold.  Both teams were put forward to compete at the Level 4 Regional Games. They competed against teams from Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Suffolk and Hertfordshire. KS1 performed fantastically are finished 4th.
KS2 also performed fantastically and gained gold.
Congratulations to both teams

Level 3 Quicksticks

A strong team of yr 6 players also represented BSSP at the level 3 games.  Strong performances against some very squads was not enough to secure a finals place but an amazing achievement.

Level 3 Archery

The BSSP also fielded an archery team. One of our children representing this team, which was made up of children from different schools within BSSP managed to finish a fantastic 2nd – silver.
Well done to all the team.

High Wych V St. Josephs away 12-1

The next match for the Yr 6 netball squad was played on a very hot Wednesday afternoon away at St. Josephs.  The first quarter was played with a fairly evenly distribution of the ball between the two teams.  As the game progressed High Wych dominated the game showing some great team work and accurate shooting.  12 – 1 was the final result.
Well done to both teams.

High Wych face tough test against St Joseph’s

On Wednesday June 8th our football team travelled to St joseph’s Catholic School in Bishop’s Stortford for the latest round of the BSP  league.
An early goal, in the first two minutes, for our team got us off to a flying start but tough defence from the opponents meant that we were unable to extend our lead any further in the first half. On the stroke of half time St Joseph’s scored an equaliser and early on in the second half high Wych took the lead again only to be pegged back again to 2-2. As the game progressed further chances came our way and we finally sealed the victory with a goal three minutes from the final whistle leading to a tense finale. Well done to all involved and thanks  to Dan for his expertise.

High Wych v Manorfields netball 16-0

The girls played their first league game of the season, their confidence soon developed as they soon started scoring.  Some great team play and excellent shooting made this a very strong performance from the year 6 Netball squad.
A great start.

First Victory for High Wych Footballers

High Wych footballers got off to a flying start this week when they took on Northgate in the first match of this year’s BSP league. Continued pressure from our team in the early stages led to an opening goal in the first few minutes, he then went on to complete a hat-trick. Additional goals meant a huge win for our team. With Northgate managing to pull one goal back in the closing stages the game ended in an 8 – 1 victory for High Wych.
Well done to all and thank you to our match official for keeping order.

Gaelic Football

This year we are pleased to announce that we have introduced a new sport to High Wych.
Gaelic football which has its origins in Ireland is fast becoming very popular across the UK. It has been played in Ireland for centuries and at the senior level it attracts huge following across the country, rivalling attendances at both international rugby and football fixtures.
Mr Gallagher will be working with his year 5 class who will, later this term, take part in a Gaelic Football tournament in St Albans. The sport involves a good level skill, is extremely fast moving and  a sport which all abilities can participate in and benefit from. Our local GAA representative has already visited the school and has spoken to the year five children. The nearest GAA club to our school is in Waltham Cross.

Select this You Tube link to get a taste of Gaelic Football as it is played at senior level.

Our amazing gymnasts took part in our own school competition.  After many hours of practice and dedication, the children took part performing to parents, grandparents and the rest of the school during the day.
As usual the standard was very high and all the children were fantastic.
Well done to all.

A squad was taken to another tournament organised by Leventhorpe School.  Ten boys and two girls made up the squad with the two girls from Yr 5 having to play in every game.  The games were yet again very competitive and the level of play very high.  The team worked well with two draws, two wins and losing one.
A very special mention for the girls as not only did they step in at the last moment but their play increased with confidence and their smiles at the end of the tournament when receiving their medals were an absolute joy.  Well done.

High 5 Netball

Two teams were entered into the Leventhorpe  tournament on a very cold Monday afternoon.
Both teams played exceptionally well  as 3 new players had only been called up that morning due to sickness.
Both teams got through to the semi-finals playing Hatfield Heath A and B teams.
A great effort by both teams however we lost both games as the cold was too much.
We have taken this experience and look forward to our next tournament at Birchwood on Friday 18th March.

Cross Country

On a cold windy day at Jobbers Wood six boys and six girls from Yrs 4,5 & 6 competed  against other local schools at a cross country festival organised by Boys High School.
Everyone ran their hearts out over a gruelling course and were a credit to their school.

KS1 and KS2 Gymnastics

Fantastic performances from our gym teams.  Both teams went off looking beautiful in their kit and having their hair styled for the event.
Some of them looked a little nervous, as this was their first competition.  They need not have worried!
They out performed   all the other schools with both teams bring back gold in the Level 2 competition.  The next stage will be the Level 3 competition on 30th June at Woodson Park.

Indoor Athlectics

A team of 8 boys and 8 girls from year 6 took turns in track and field events.  The team took on their challenges well and always performed to their best.  Some amazing skills shone through especially in the throwing.  The track events as always were very competitive and we finished 3rd overall.

They all performed superbly and were a real credit to the school and themselves.  Well done to our coaches for their hard work in preparing the children.  We are very proud of the children

Football and Netball Victories

In the final round of matches in this year’s Partnership League, both our football and netball teams recorded memorable wins over St Joseph’s Catholic Primary from Bishop’s Stortford. At the end of the football match the football team made a special presentation to Mr Edgeworth to say thank you for his many years of football coaching at High Wych and in recognition of the wonderful achievements of the football team over the course of this year.
Once again, a big thank you Mr Edgeworth.

High Wych Footballers

On Wednesday June 3rd our football team played their second round match in the Partnership Football League against Hillmead.
This was billed as one of our biggest challenges in recent months and so it proved to be. Hillmead took an early lead but High Wych had levelled the score by half time.
Early in the second half Hillmead once again went ahead at which point our boys upped the pressure and eventually scored the equaliser. A flurry of activity in the Hillmead goalmouth in the last ten minutes saw Highy Wych fire home a further 3 goals to emerge as comfortable winners and a 5-2 scoreline.
A big well done to all who took part.
Our next match is against  St Joseph’s on June 17th.

High 5 Netball

Using all the skills the girls have been practising the girls performed an amazing game of High 5s against St Andrews Primary School, Much Hadham. They used the space on the pitch, passing the ball with great ease. 8-1 win to High Wych.
The match was played by both schools in great spirit and it was a joy to watch.

We wish our team the best of luck and congratulations again on their most recent win.

On Wednesday, April 22nd, our football team played their final match in the Leventhorpe League, knowing that a win would secure the trophy. After a tentative start we opened the scoring and a second goal saw High Wych into a comfortable lead by half time.
A second half goal completed a 3-0 victory over a very determined Sheerings side.
A huge congratulations to all those who played in the tournament and to our coach for dedicating so much of his time and energy to the team.
Well done!

Two teams from High Wych represented our school with one team in the cup competition and another in the plate competition. Our cup team won their first game against St Joseph’s with a score of 4-0 and we drew our second game with Summercroft. Due to a difference of one goal Summercroft went through to the semi-final.
Our plate team progressed to the semi-final stage, having won their pool, but unfortunately were beaten by Hillmead 1-0 in a very keenly contested match.

Following our fantastic win at Birchwood in November the High Wych basketball team went on to represent our partnership region in the county finals at Queen’s School, Bushey, Watford.
Despite a brilliant effort by our team, unfortunately we did not manage to make it to the knock out stage. Everyone played their part and represented our school and area really well.
A big thank you to the players who gave up their day off to play for their school and to the parents who made the considerable journey to Watford on December 1st. Well done!

A Fantastic Win For High Wych Basketballers

On Friday November 14th our basketball team took part in their first competition at Birchwood.

Tag-Rugby Year 5/6 Tournament

High Wych sent two teams of children from years 5 and 6 to take part in the annual tag rugby tournament at Bishop’s Stortford Rugby Clubon Friday 13th June.
Our Red team played five games in total in the group stages, winning three and drawing two. Our white team played four matches, winning two and losing two. As a result, our red team secured a place in the semi-finals where, unfortunately, they were beaten by Summercroft who went on to win the tournament outright.
The children played some wonderful rugby, showed fantastic team spirit and listened to the referees’ instructions throughout the games. Such a great display of skill and teamwork means that we have plenty of quality rugby to look forward to in the coming years.
Well done to all who took part.

Tag Rugby Coaching

To coincide with the wonderful RBS Six Nations Rugby Tournament, Tom Coleman from Bishop’s Stortford RFC has been in our school coaching our Year 4 children in the finer points of tag-rugby.
Despite an absolute soaking on the first day the children had a great time and now that the field is drying out and the days getting warmer it should be even more fun.
As well as playing and learning skills the children will also be reminded of the game's core ethos - to respect the opposition and those who are in charge.
Well done Y4 and thank you to Bishop’s Stortford Rugby Club.

may_poleYear 5 performed their annual Maypole dance to the school and their parents, it was a great success.
