Community
St James Church
High Wych Primary school is a Voluntary Controlled Church of England school. We have strong links with St James Church, where our school community worship several times a year. We hold our Harvest Service, Christmas Service and Easter Service in the church, as well as additional class visits, usually linked to our RE Curriculum and an end of Year service for Year 6 pupils.
We are privileged to have Reverend Alison visit each week to lead our Collective Worship. Reverend Alison is additionally involved in many of our school activities and events. Our school is in the Diocese of St Albans and we have an active association with the Diocesan Board of Education
Harvest Festival
Pupils enjoy growing a variety of vegetables in the school allotment each year. We donate a selection to a local charity (including fruit grown on our school trees) where staff provide nutritional home cooked meals for their club members. The non-perishable items brought in by the classes are given to food banks and the sunflower heads are harvested to make bird food.
Easter Service at St James Church
We celebrated our Easter service at St James Church. The whole school community, from Nursery through to Year 6, took part in our Easter Service which was attended by our parents. Our children (with Reverend Alison) lead the service with songs, readings, prayers and an ensemble by our school choir. See Galleries for more photos.

Allotment
The children grow a variety of produce to support our curriculum, some are also offered to local charity. Each year we celebrate their hard work with a display of colourful produce at the Harvest Festival.
Van Hage and Harlow Garden Centre have both kindly donating a selection of seeds in the past.

Scarecrow Festival
Every year the village is full of a wonderful assortment of scarecrows
Pupils make a contribution to the festival each year by creating designs to support the annual theme. Members of the committee visit school to help the pupils produce their creations.
Climate Justice
The children created artwork to support Climate Justice and displayed them in St James' Church to share with the community.
Remembrance Day
Yr2 created a poppy wreath made from thank you notes. The children visited the church where they learnt about the local soldiers. We met the vicar and our local historian in the churchyard for a short service and placed the poppy wreath under the memorial cross.

Children in school made an extra special Christmas card this year, they took part in the annual HILS project. The children learnt about the importance of remembering those that may not have family around them and designed beautiful, festive cards to give to an elderly member of the community who might be spending Christmas alone.
